    Latency

    in General Discussion

    Hello Lytmi,

just installed the NEO 1.4. I love the color accuracy, which I never achieved with the DreamScreen.

But there is a very noticeable latency in color change. I went back and watched some of the unpacking/demo vids again and it seems it has nothing to do with my setup.

Will this be improved in the next version?

Also, are there any plans to add HomeKit support (or Matter)? Even a workaround through Homebridge would be nice. Won’t let Alexa or Google anywhere near my setup, especially with a microphone installed in the NEO.

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks

    Kirkstone

Updated version regarding the latency: Hi Kirkstone, correct us if we are wrong. Just got the feedback from the IT, and said the slight latency exists for a reason. It evolves something like "Softening Algorithms". And the necessity to introduce the softening algorithms, or put it another way, the slight latency is to make sure when the onscreen content changes even rapidly , the lights will sync the colors and effects in a way that’s is eyes-friendly by making a softening transition by reducing the dazzling effects on the eyes if the lights flash rapidly.

There are three screen sync modes in the app:

●Weak Mode: fit best with TV series, cartoons, (advised mode for the young and the old)

●Normal Mode: fit best with movies, games, etc., (mostly used mode for most people)

●High Mode: fit best with games (advised mode for those who has high demand in synchronization effect)

Also you can refers to the video for easier understanding.

@Lytmi Hi Jack, sorry it took me a while to get back to you.

With the latency the experience doesn’t feel very natural. The lights should represent what’s on the screen without any noticeable delay, seemingly expanding the screen. After watching for a bit, you shouldn’t even notice the background lighting.

When you even have a slight delay it makes you notice the lights as a separate thing.

I played around with the weak/normal/high setting and couldn’t see a difference regarding the latency. In Weak mode the transition between colors is smoother, making the effect of not being completely synced with the content worse for me. Even in High mode, when you have a switch between cameras in a movie or TV show, it takes the Neo a bit too long to switch to the correct lighting.

Hi Kirkstone, thanks for the valuable feedback, a very slight latency indeed exists with the 1.4 version and definitely we will improve in the next version.

As for HomeKit compatibility, we have noted that down, will take into consideration in the future versions.

Latency is the biggest issue for me and really hope it can be fixed through firmware update asap. The one I purchased is Neo2.0 because you said the latency will get improved in the “next version of Neo1.4 “ but turns out the big latency is still there in all three modes.
